Cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) is a diagnostic procedure that analyzes respiration, cardiac function and metabolism during physical exercise. It measures oxygen uptake, carbon dioxide output and breathing volume. This allows an accurate assessment and targeted optimization of physical performance – in medicine, sports or rehabilitation. Particularly in sports, it provides precise data for individualized training control and for determining the anaerobic threshold – a key factor for effective endurance training.

The CORTEX21® performance is a newly developed CPET system that combines the strengths of its predecessors in a single device. It offers one solution for all applications – from stationary to mobile – enabling precise metabolic measurements in any setting.
To prepare, you need to enter the test subject's data at your typing speed. Then you can start right away. No tedious warm-up or calibration. A spiroergometry measurement with the CORTEX21® performance takes about 20 minutes, depending on the exercise protocol (may take longer for some individuals). A resting measurement to determine basal metabolic rate takes about 30 minutes.
Yes, CORTEX21® performance can be used both indoors and outdoors.
In indoor settings, the system can be operated either in stationary mode with a power connection or on battery power. In both configurations, it sits securely in its docking station and can be placed on a table or equipment cart.
The CORTEX21® performance can also be used for mobile indoor testing. A specially designed carrying vest enables the test person to wear the device comfortably and in an ergonomic position.
For fully individualized outdoor testing, the integrated geopositioning enables effortless data acquisition directly at the point of interest.
Absolutely, the associated software called METASOFT® performance can be used to control a wide range of existing exercise equipment. The CORTEX21® performance itself has a Bluetooth LE connection to a PC and any accessories.
